Ben Ostertag, the 13yr old brain cancer survivor who Mark befriended last year, is now on a mission to help others by raising money that will grant the wishes of other children with life-threatening illnesses. Mark visited with Ben several times last year at UCLA hospital where Ben was receiving treatment, and became personal friends of the family. He has kept in touch with the Ostertags and we are all so happy to see his cancer in remission and Ben as enthusiastic as ever.

The article may be titled “Like Father, Like Son”, but Mark gives us some incite into his next project, which he is currently filming. Here is an excerpt from that article:
“It’s going to be hard-core, live action,” says Dacascos, who has the lead role. “It should be interesting. Last time I worked with Steve (Steve Wang on “Drive”) I would come off the set with cuts, scratches, tons of bruises, and I even went to the hospital once. So I’ve been just getting my body prepared for the beating I’m going to take.”
So it look like we’ll soon be seeing the first live-action 3-D martial arts film! And Mark’s the star! how cool. Read the full article at the link below.

Thanks to Carl Fox of Martial Arts Illustrated for posting his fantastic interview with Mark D on their site, martialartsunltd.co.uk. Martial Arts Illustrated is the UK’s #1 magazine in its class and has been pumping out great material since 1988, including four interviews with Mark. Here is an excerpt:
“I met with the producers of (Legend of Bruce Lee) and they were actually considering me for the Danny Inosanto part …but the thing about that part was that most of the scenes involved holding the pads for Bruce. They were hoping that I would want to fight Bruce so I thought, ‘Cool, OK, definitely.’ So it was their recommendation that I play the King Charles part and I thought that would be great because I get to fight Bruce Lee.”

Fil-Am stars Cheryl Burke, Natalie Coughlin and Mark Dacascos were honored by the Asian Journal as three of the “Top Personalities Who Shaped 2009″.
Dancing with the (Fil-Am) stars - Natalie Coughlin, Mark Dacascos and Cheryl Burke. It was a first on US reality television—three stars of Filipino heritage in one show, Dancing With the Stars on ABC. After back-to-back wins on DWTS’ Seasons 2 and 3, dancer-choreographer Cheryl Burke is the only professional dancer to appear in the show three times. Olympic swimmer gold medalist Natalie Coughlin performed for five weeks before being voted out, while Iron Chef America host, martial arts expert and actor Mark “The Chairman” Dacascos danced his way until the seventh week.

FROM KUNGFUCINEMA.COM: I know this isn’t a top 10 list, but if there was to be a number one, DRIVE would be it. You CANNOT say any American martial arts film is better than DRIVE.
Directed by Steve Wang with fight choreography by Koichi Sakamoto, and starring the always impressive Mark Dacascos, DRIVE truly is not only the best American martial arts film ever made, but one of the best martial arts movies period, from any country. The fights are incredible, each one utilizing a different environment – from close-quarters motel room fighting to a fight set in a futuristic bar where all the bad guys are on motorcycles – with each one besting the previous sequence. This is true Hong-Kong style choreography and surpasses the fighting in a huge amount of Asian martial arts films.
It’s also really funny, with the RUSH HOUR-style pairing of Dacascos and Kadeem Hardison proving just as effective as Chan and Tucker. It’s essentially a hilarious road movie that stops off at different places (very frequently) in order to have lengthy, intense fight sequences that never get boring and are always inventive. Everything about this movie is ace, and you really cannot call yourself a martial arts fan if you haven’t seen this movie. I guarantee that you will enjoy it.
Brittany Murphy is in it too, which is nice.

by: Jeanne Jakle - How tough is it to be on Dancing With the Stars? “I’m on my 44th day without taking a break,” Mark Dacascos said in an early-morning call.
He was on his way to his real job in New York as Chairman on Iron Chef America. After that shoot, on three to four hours of sleep, Dacascos had to fly back to L.A. to put in hours and hours of practice with his partner, Lacey Schwimmer.
Once again, they were to learn three dances — including the samba and Paso Doble — by Monday’s show.
